  Notes	Maud had a grade 2 education and worked as a clerk. She had a very poor upbringing and left home between 14 and 16 years of age to go to St John's to work when the company she worked for moved its business there. Maud's biological father is officially unknown as there is no birth record for her. However DNA testing has shown that it could possibly be Henry Harry Simms (1872-1955). Some of his great great grandchildren have tested and are third cousins to me. This is the correct relationship for us to share him as an ancestor of great great grandparent. There is a photo of Henry Harry Simms that was found on Ancestry.ca, user Cora Simms. He has the same nose as Maud so this is further evidence that there could be a relationship. More research into DNA relations is required to confirm. March 2025 Thomas Gordon (Lush) West's baptism registry implies Maud was married to John Lush when Thomas was born in 1908 and her name was previously Sparkes. I had previously assumed/believed she was using the name Lush after her mother married William Lush in 1897; no marriage records have been found for John Lush and Maud or death record for John. POSSIBLE theory: her step brother John Lush stood in as Thomas' father so he wouldn't be seen as illegitimate.
