- Obituary - Thomas Mercer - There passed peacefully away on May 7th, {1933} Thomas, beloved son of the late Isaac and Eliza Mercer. Deceased was in his 71st year and was born and lived all his days at Mercer's Cove, Bay Roberts, and from his boyhood pursued the fishery, where he was widely known and greatly beloved by all with whom he came in contact. For the past three month he had been in failing health, and all that medical aid and the care and attention of his family to try and restore him to health could do was done but failed. On Sunday afternoon, May 7th, his spirit took flight to the regions beyond. "Where the weary are at rest." Left to mourn are his wife and eight children, three sons residing in the U.S.A., namely, Jonathan, Arthur and Lemuel, one daughter residing in Port de Grave, Mrs. Walter Bussey, and two daughters, Emily and Theresa, and two sons, Edgar and Cecil at home, who are sorely bereaved of a loving husband and father. Also five sisters, Mrs. Joseph Mercer, Mrs. Lot Snow, Mrs. William Mercer, Mrs. Susie Fifield and Mrs. John Gray, and 9 grandchildren, to all of whom the friends and neighbours extend sincere sympathy. // The funeral took place to the Central United Church on Tuesday, May 9th, the Rev'd. A. R. Baggs officiating. A large concourse of people attended; also the L.O. Society paraded and rendered very appropriate music. The service at the church and graveside was very impressive. The hymns for the service were, "let us join our friends above", "How bright these glorious spirits shine", "How firm a foundation". The text for the address was the 1st verse of the 5th chapter of 2nd Corinthians,"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." The pastor made touching references to our departed brother's Christian experience, and paid a high tribute to him. The anthem at the Church was a favourite of the deceased brother. "
