- Excerpt from Descendants of Joseph West, Compiled by Rex Gibbons, 2010:
"Jack started work as an Air Traffic Control assistant in Gander, Newfoundland, the same day he wrote his last high school exam for Grade 11. From there, he became a full-fledged Air Traffic Controller, and worked in Gander until the late 1980's. He then moved to Cornwall, Ontario, and worked as an ATC instructor for Transport Canada Training Institute. In Janaury, 1997, at the age of 53, and after 35 years of working, he qualified for and took a full retirement from DOT (Department of Transport). At that time, Jack and Angela sold their house in Cornwall and bought a winter place at Daytona Beach, Florida. They spend May to September at their summer home at Ladle Cove, Newfoundland, and October to April at Daytona Beach."
