- CECIL KIRBY Obituary
CECIL MELVIN KIRBY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Uncle and friend Cecil Kirby, age 84, on January 9, 2017 at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. Cecil was the son of the late Jean Kearley, Denis Kirby and step-mother Irene. Cecil was predeceased by his brothers Edward Kirby and Jim Kirby, step-sister Rose McGuire and dear friend William Cotter. Cecil was born in St. John's, NL on August 4, 1932. When he was a young man he moved to Toronto and made his home in Cabbagetown. Cecil made many good friends and this community and the people in it were truly his home. There he worked as a Barber all his adult life until a few short years ago. Cecil loved animals and enjoyed many years of love and companionship from his pets especially Toby who he lovingly referred to as his "little boy." Cecil's character was like no other and for those who were lucky enough to know him, his kindness, generosity and especially his sense of humour will forever be remembered. Cecil leaves behind many good friends. He will be sadly missed by his sister-in-law June Kirby (Halifax), nephew Dennis Kirby, niece Karen Kirby and "Grand" nephew Joseph Kirby (all of Halifax), niece Mary Kirby (Ottawa), nephew Edward Kirby (Winnipeg) and his best friend Anthony Ameer-Ali. Visitation on Thursday, January 12, 2017 6-8 p.m. Funeral service Friday, January 13, 2017, 10 a.m. at McDougall and Brown Funeral Home, 1812 Eglinton Ave. West, at Dufferin, Toronto, ON, followed by interment at Toronto Necropolis Cemetery, 200 Winchester St., Toronto.
