Albert was born in Brigus in 1939 and lived there for 83 years. He was well known to everyone who came and especially walked the streets of our beautiful town. Albert devoted 29 years of his time on the Town Council, with some years as a deputy mayor. He was very passionate about his town and went on many conventions throughout the years. Albert knew the history of Brigus like no other.
He started his career as a mechanic at Marshall Motors. Driving back and forth to St. John's. He didn't like the driving back and forth and his last career in St. John's ended with CN. Albert then started work at the Brigus Supreme Court House. Once that closed down, he moved to the Dept of Highways in Bay Roberts where he retired from.
Albert also drove the Bingo bus and School bus. Once he retired he did the school run full time. Albert was known as the bus driver with the neon orange hat. His students would always look for hat and know which bus was theirs.
Albert loved the outdoors and his motorcycle. You would often find him down with his boat getting ready to enjoy fishing and turring. During Caplin season, you would find him dumping the old caplin back out to sea. He loved in the woods hunting rabbits and moose.
Albert loved the water and any chance he had, he was out at sea. He cared for the Lighthouse in Brigus for a number of years. In 1988, when Schooner Ernestina, formally known as Capt Bob Bartlett Effie M Morrissey came to Brigus, Albert sailed back to Boston, MA where the schooner went. When Parks Canada decided to open the home of Capt. Bob Bartlett, Albert, was the groundskeeper for many years.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place in Brigus July 15, 2023. More details to follow.
