Ellsworth
We have been told that Andrew Ellsworth, who was born in
Shillingstone, Dorsetshire, sailed from Hampshire when he was 13 years
old. He came to Harbour Le Cou where he was apprenticed to a Mre Buckle.
Next he came to Bonne Bay and married Esther Roberts, one of John and
Sarah Payne's great-grandchildren. Later they moved to Rocky Harbour and
settled at Bear Cove. We have been told that his cousin, Eli Ellsworth,
may have been with him, as he al so come out as a young man of 13 or 14
years old. Eli married Esther's sister, Rose Ella, and they _also lived
in Bear Cove, Rocky Harbour.
