- It is great sadness that we announce the passing of Clarence Jackson West on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the age of 92. He passed away peacefully at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander.
Clarence was born on September 25, 1932 in Carmanville, NL to Alphaeus and Beatrice West.
Clarence is predeceased by his parents; his loving wife Juanita of 64 years; brother Ralph; sisters Pearl, Annie, Delilah, Florence, Olive, Althea, Bessie, and Gertrude; grandchildren Rodney and Charlee; and sons-in-law David and Everett.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children Gloria (Bruce), Diane, Cindy, Wayne (Kim); grandchildren Wanda-Lee, Dion, Wendy, Cayla, Tyson, Samantha, and Andrew; and great-grandchildren Nathan, Brianna, Hunter, Hayden, Kensi, Jack, Sadie, Madison, Brooklyn; raised as siblings Ruth and Claude; as well as a large circle of family and friends.
Clarence lived his entire adult life a few steps away from his childhood home. At the age of 20, he built the house in which he and his wife raised their family, and in which he continued to live until this summer. This house was more than just a home for his family, it became a symbol of strength and endurance for a man whose entire life was spent working with his hands to provide for his family. Clarence loved everything about the outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing, berry picking, gardening, or spending time at his cabin.
Visitation will take place at Stacey’s Funeral Home in Carmanville on Tuesday, November 26 from 2-4pm, and 7-9pm.
Funeral will take place on Wednesday, November 27 at the Salvation Army Citadel at 11am. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Forever37 Project in memory of granddaughter Charlee Tulk
