651 | Various trees and hints on Ancestry.ca have Rachael married to Samuel Downing and having many children. I have not found any documentation to prove this marriage, however, there is a marriage record for Rachael and Abraham Smith. There are numerous records indicating a Samuel and Rachel Downing who had children but nothing to prove she was Rachael Nicholas. More research is required on this family. | Family F124

653 | Walter worked with his father and brothers in the cod and lobster fisheries. He also worked at other jobs, including the lumberwoods, until he became lightkeeper on the Offer Wadham Island. Walter was appointed lightkeeper on Offer Wadham Island in September 1938 and stayed for 22 years. A new Swedish Daylen battery light went into operation on November 8, 1960, and Walter came off the island on November 28, 1960. However, he continued to look after the light for another few years, going in and out from time to time whenever the light needed attention; he officially retired in November, 1967. His assistant for many years was his brother-in-law, Herbert Abbott. Walter was awarded the C.S.F. for services rendered during the 2nd World War. 656 | WAREHAM, Gerald Gerald J. Wareham of Notre-Dame-de-Grace, Quebec, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2021 at 93 years of age. Leaving an indelible imprint on so many and lovingly remembered by his dear life companion of forty years, Stella Lacoursiere; younger brother John J. Wareham (Lise); nieces, Patricia (Pete), Brenda (Jacques) and Donna (Mark); great-grandnieces and nephews; and his many friends. Gerald (Gerry) was born in Montreal on June 23, 1928; the second of three sons to Margaret (Clooney) and Charles P. Wareham. He grew up with his two brothers John and Charles (predeceased in 2009) and proudly lived in Notre-Dame-de Grace his entire life. Known for his steadfast faith, love of family, keen mind, love of jogging, gentle wit, and heartfelt laugh Gerry will be deeply missed by all who had the true privilege of knowing him. Gerry graduated from Sir George Williams (Concordia) University in 1951 and was welcomed into the Order of Chartered Accountants in 1954, having gracefully attracted the attention of others by ranking first in Canada in the national CA examination. Upon graduation, he joined Pricewaterhouse Coopers where he briefly expanded his horizons in their London England office, was made a Partner in 1963, followed by becoming a Fellow CA in 1984. After having enjoyed a very accomplished career spanning more than 38 years with PwC culminating as the Managing Partner of the Montreal Office and Eastern Canada region for 6 years, he decided to retire in 1989. Having an insatiable love to learn and connect with people, Gerry embarked on a second career as a dedicated and active business community member; serving on numerous boards for the Order of Chartered Accounts of Quebec, joining the Advisory board of Concordia's Centre for Management Studies, teaching Management Accounting at McGill's Desautels Faculty of Management, and acting as Trustee of a large pharmaceutical pension fund. He also was the Chairman and a Director of Robco Inc. for numerous years. Throughout his career with PWC and in all of his endeavours, Gerry was known as a keen creative mind, a loyal friend and mentor to countless former colleagues and peers; supporting many to carry on to great achievements. Being acutely aware of the privilege that his success afforded him and as a devout Catholic, giving back to the community was an important part of Gerry's life. He served on numerous boards as a Director and was a generous but very private benefactor of charities and hospitals, including St. Mary's Hospital, the Douglas Hospital Research Centre, The Canadian Council of Christians and Jews among several others. The family would like to thank so many but would be remiss not to specifically mention Dr. Christina Tong, Dr. J.P. Pelletier, Mr. George Tsonis, Physiotherapist, and those at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Those that are able to join us to celebrate Gerry's life, are welcome to the funeral visitation which will be held at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White, 5610 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H4A 1W5 on Sunday October 24, 2 to 5 p.m., 7 to 9 p.m. (Pandemic capacity restriction of 50 attendees at the same time.) A funeral service will be held on Monday October 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St-Monica's Parish, 6405, rue de Terrebonne, Montreal, Quebec H4B 1A8. (Pandemic capacity restriction of 120 attendees.) In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Gerry's most cherished charitable causes: Queen Elizabeth Health Complex Foundation, Douglas Hospital Foundation and Concordia University, School of Commerce. | Wareham, Gerald John (I6140)

685 | With profound sadness and broken hearts, we announce the passing of Henry Dyer Hurdon, devoted husband, father, and son, who died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of May 18, 2020 at the age of 56 years. Henry is lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife Christine; parents Marge and Jim; daughters Amanda and Rachel; step-son Jeremy; brothers Rod and Robert; and special nephew Mike. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law Cynthia (John); brother-in-law Conrad (Amelia); mother-in-law Barbara, Christine's stepmother Dora, and numerous other aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his brother Randy. Henry often spoke fondly about his childhood years growing up in Thunder Bay. He enjoyed entertaining us all with the stories of mischief he got into with his three older brothers at the ski hill, at the rink, and at the family cottage on Lake Superior. Henry's intellect and love of technology guided him to a degree in electrical engineering from Lakehead University, and he went on to a career that he thoroughly enjoyed designing hardware products for several engineering companies in Ottawa. In his later career, he absolutely loved developing relationships with business associates from all over the world. Nobody worked harder than Henry, and you could always count on him to be genuine and honest. Henry's laugh was the kind that spread around the room. He was a gentle soul who saw beauty in the world around him. His optimism and bright outlook on life was a marvel even as he struggled with health problems these last few years. Henry was the type of person who lived fully in the present, always looking for the next fun family event or planning the next winter trip to the Caribbean. Kind and generous, he would get excited about his latest Costco find and fill his cart so he could share his excitement with family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed watching all kinds of movies, scuba and snorkeling, driving while singing along with the radio loudly playing country or pop music, dog walks, and -- of course -- Tim Horton's. He loved animals, having owned several cats and Labrador Retrievers that he held dear over the years, and would often take his naps cuddled up with the family dog. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and could always be counted on to help with any kind of problem. Our dear, sweet Henry will be forever missed. | Hurdon, Henry Dyer (I6495)
