112 CECIL KIRBY Obituary
CECIL MELVIN KIRBY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Uncle and friend Cecil Kirby, age 84, on January 9, 2017 at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. Cecil was the son of the late Jean Kearley, Denis Kirby and step-mother Irene. Cecil was predeceased by his brothers Edward Kirby and Jim Kirby, step-sister Rose McGuire and dear friend William Cotter. Cecil was born in St. John's, NL on August 4, 1932. When he was a young man he moved to Toronto and made his home in Cabbagetown. Cecil made many good friends and this community and the people in it were truly his home. There he worked as a Barber all his adult life until a few short years ago. Cecil loved animals and enjoyed many years of love and companionship from his pets especially Toby who he lovingly referred to as his "little boy." Cecil's character was like no other and for those who were lucky enough to know him, his kindness, generosity and especially his sense of humour will forever be remembered. Cecil leaves behind many good friends. He will be sadly missed by his sister-in-law June Kirby (Halifax), nephew Dennis Kirby, niece Karen Kirby and "Grand" nephew Joseph Kirby (all of Halifax), niece Mary Kirby (Ottawa), nephew Edward Kirby (Winnipeg) and his best friend Anthony Ameer-Ali. Visitation on Thursday, January 12, 2017 6-8 p.m. Funeral service Friday, January 13, 2017, 10 a.m. at McDougall and Brown Funeral Home, 1812 Eglinton Ave. West, at Dufferin, Toronto, ON, followed by interment at Toronto Necropolis Cemetery, 200 Winchester St., Toronto. We would like to thank all the staff, support workers, nurses and doctors at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto especially his family physicians Dr. Charlie Bobby Guiang and Dr. Lauren Welsh at Health Centre 410, St. Michael's Hospital and the wonderful team from Community Care and Access Centre for their care and dedication to Cecil. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Toronto Humane Society, The Salvation Army, The Scott Mission or a children's charity of your choice.

115 Charlie was still living at Lumsden North in 1946. The Wests lived well out towards the Queen's Head, and on the morning of Friday, December 17, 1946, Charlie was up long before daylight to see if it was a good morning for a bird. Charlie was known as a "great hand fer the gun" (Raymond W. Guy's book "From the Straight Shore".) It was a real winter's morning, the wind on the land with snow and blowing snow. The snow eased up a bit and Charlie saw what he thought was the morning star. But the star seemed to be swaying and, as the snow lightened a bit more, he saw other lights below the star and realized they were the lights on a ship.

The SS Thackery was bound for Botwood for a load of newsprint from the paper mill at Grand Falls. After she passed Cat Harbour Island (Norther Island), she was caught in a gale on the land and slowly drifted ashore on Queen's Head. Efforts to take the crew off by boats failed, but a line was gotten ashore, a bosun's chair was rigged, and after four hours, all were safely landed. The ship spent the winter grounded on Queen's Head but did not suffer much damage. On the first high tide of the Spring, she was refloated and went to St. John's for repairs. (All this info came from Raymond Guy's book.)

He never looked for praises
He was never one to boast
He just went on quietly working
For the ones he loved the most.

His dreams were seldom spoken
His wants were very few
And most of the time his worries
Went unspoken too.

He was there.... A firm foundation
Through all our storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold on to
In times of stress and strife.

A true friend we could turn to
When times were good or bad
One of our greatest blessings
The man that we called Dad.

120 Converted to Catholicism to marry Margaret Curtis. Baptized at age 28, November 19, 1879 in Portugal Cove Parish.
Parents are listed as Alexander Wareham and Mary Wheeler.
Did he purposely give inaccurate names because of the upset in the family about him switching religions?
DNA relationships between descendants of Charles and James indicate that they were brothers. Also, there is no one with the names Alexander Wareham or Mary Wheeler found in any records together yet.

Wareham, Charles (I3110)

121 Could her father have been an Eason?? Abbott, Effie C.M. (I5558)

122 Could her maiden name be Roberts? Her son William had the second name Roberts and it was common for children to have their mother's maiden name as their second name.

Arthur and Elizabeth possibly had a son named Arthur as there is a burial of an Arthur Branscomb a few days before Elizabeth's burial. It is believed that Arthur senior died in 1771 as Elizabeth remarried as a widow to Henry Radford.
Elizabeth (I3330)

123 Currently unknown if this is the correct father for Alphaeus West. Presumed that Alphaeus West was illegitimate as Ann and Alphaeus Barbour both went on to marry others and have other children.  Barbour *, Alphaeus (I5181)

124 Daisy Wareham West said her grandmother's name was Mary Power, pronounced Poor, from Dublin, Ireland. Research says it is Ellen, not Mary. Ellen married James Wareham in 1878. On Sarah Jane's (Ellen and James's daughter) death record in 1952 her mother's name is Helen Poore.

There is an Ellen Power baptized to parents Michael Power and Catherine Doyle in Bay de Verde in 1857. A lot of researchers have connected her to this Ellen, however, DNA connections to others from that family line show no connections to Warehams at all.

This Ellen/Mary remains a mystery!
Power, Ellen (I1231)
