    When Mom was 17 years old, she and her sister went to St. John's from Marystown and she went to work for a lawyer to take care of his children. She met Will and they were going out when she went to Boston with the family for 2-3 years. While she was gone, Will collected wood from the ships that came into the harbour and left wood on the wharf [from unloading cargo] and built their house on Pearce Avenue. Will, being a cooper and very handy, he removed the back of his car and turned it into a truck so he could collect the wood. Sarah returned to St John's around the time of the tsunami. They married when she returned and took a horse and buggy to Holyrood for their honeymoon.

    KIRBY, Francis Gregory (Hank) - Aged 70. Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, July 2, 2002. Hank was the longtime owner/ operator of Kirby`s Autobody Shop on Topsail Road. Hank was predeceased by his parents: William Sr. and Sarah Kirby. Left with a legacy of love and precious memories are his wife of 49 years, Tillie (Brennan); daughter Kim; special niece Anne Manning-Moffitt; brother Bill (Gail) of St. John`s; sisters: Regina Andrews (Walt) of St. John`s, Teresa Brennan and Carol Burke (John) of London, Margie Sheridan (Jimmy) of Ottawa, Lucy McKinley of Moncton; sisters-in-law: Monica Manning (Gerry), Rita Walsh (Jack) of St. John`s, Jeannie Cormier, Annie Coffey, Donnie Shea, Chrissie Collins (Reg) of Placentia; aunts: Annie Coady, Marie Wilmot, Bride Martin and Marg Dolan; special friend George Lewis; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Wednesday and Thursday from 2 p.m.- 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Friday, July 5, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa`s Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Mary Queen of the World or the Iris Kirby House.
