Charles Wareham

1851 - 1934  (83 years)

• Name	Charles Wareham
note from Donna Wareham, June, 2021: What I know is my great grandfather came over from England with his brothers; I think that there were 2 or 3 brothers. I believe that they were fishermen. My father said that his grandfather used to be a whaler. He fell in love with a Irish, Catholic girl Margaret Curtis and converted to Catholicism to marry her. On his baptism certificate it states that his parents are Alexander Wareham and Mary Wheeler. It also said that he was living in Bonavista. The change of religions caused a falling out with his brothers and I do not think that they spoke again. He and Margaret had 4 children in NFLD and then 3 more after they moved to Montreal. They are both buried in Cote des Neiges Cemetery in Montreal.
Birth	10 May 1851	Gooseberry Island, Newfoundland   [1]
Death record indicates date of birth as 10 May 1855
  Christening	12 May 1851	Greenspond, Newfoundland   [2]
Converted to Catholicism to marry Margaret Curtis. Baptized at age 28, November 19, 1879 in Portugal Cove Parish. Parents are listed as Alexander Wareham and Mary Wheeler - no record of these people yet found. Did he purposely give inaccurate names because of the upset in the family about him switching religions? DNA relationships between descendants of Charles, James, and John indicate that they were brothers making Stephen Wareham and Mary Goldsworthy his parents.
